An American vocalist, songwriter.
Born in Los Angeles.
Jill is mainly known as once a part of "The Mamas and Papas" in the sixties.
On meeting Jan Berry in 1959 she and Berry wrote several songs together.
Gibson eventually was well into writing songs with other composers such as George Tipton and Roger Christian who wrote for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys Fame.
A creation of "Judy and Jill" was presented by Berry, Judy was Dean Torrence's girl friend , Judy Lovejoy. This was in the early sixties.
They recorded together for the Liberty label but nothing came to fruition.
Jill did session work for "Jan and Dean" etc. In 1966 Jill had been dating Shelley Fabares ex or separated husband Lou Adler, Jan and Dean's producer.
Through Adler in the late sixties he introduced her to "The Mams and Papas". At this time John Phillips had fired Michelle Gilliam from the group. Hence Jill was asked to join the group.
Later their record label fired Mama Cass in June 28 1966 and Jill joined the group.
Jills voice was recorded on several tracks of a new album. The photo shots for the new album had been taked before, so Jill was superiposed over Michelle's photo.
All of this was too much and the record and the label "Dunhill Records" were not satisfied and a new shot for the cover was taken.
Jill toured with the group as a new Mama but in 1966 it was decided to get Michelle back. Exit Jill.
Jill would later state her exit was betrayed by John Phillips.
Jill continued to write songs and produced many recordings.
In 2004 Jill Gibson attended the memorial service for ex boyfriend Jan Berry.
Jill Gibson is a full time artist with paintings, sculptures and photographs with world wide exibitions and has her own gallery in California. "Gibson Artworks'.
