Buddy DeSylva

An American songwriter.

Born in New York, and grew up in California.

De Sylva was mainly successful with songs written for Al Jolson and Jolson's Broadway show 'Sinbad'. The show goes back to 1918.

Later he became a partner with Brown, Henderson, DeSylva becoming one of the 20th Century's great writers of the era.

The film "The Best Things in Life Are Free" made in 1956 dipicted the life of De Sylva, Brown and Henderson with Gordon MacRae starring as DeSylva.

DeSylva became a producer of stage and musicals film during the thirties and in the forties was the executive producer of Paramount Pictures until the mid forties.

He also along with Johnny Mercer and Glenn Wallichs founded Capitol records.

Buddy DeSylva died at the age of 55 years.
