An English singer and founding member of 'The Hollies'.
All in all a very fine singer.
He and friend Graham Nash sang together before they formed a group named 'The Fortunes' and also 'The Deltas' with Eric Haydock on bass and Don Rathbone on drums but was soon replaced by Bobby Elliott in 1963 and Tony Hicks as lead guitarist.
In 1963 the group changed the name to 'The Hollies' after Buddy Hooly.
Clarke had a voice that one knew straight away giving the group their sound and added harmonies.
Clarke left the group in 1971 to go solo and was replaced by Swedish singer 'Mikael Rickfors'. He was with a group named 'Bmaboo'.
Rejoining the band in 1973 the group was abck to normal, though the hits dried up appart from one song 'THE AIR THAT I BREATHE' in 1974.
Though the band went through some tough times with not many changes the group must rate as one of Englands top five sixties groups that rated very close to The Beatles.
Allan Clarke retired in 1999 and was replaced by singer 'Carl Wayne'.
